Leuven houses the world's largest banana genebank

The Bioversity International Musa Transit Centre is the world’s largest banana genebank. Hosted at the University of Leuven, Belgium, it contributes to the secure long-term conservation of the entire banana genepool and holds the collection in trust for the benefit of future generations under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN.
