Research centres
Various research centres have been set up to promote cooperation between research groups within KU Leuven and the Leuven University Hospitals. Each of these centres focuses on a particular research topic.
CD3
The Centre for Drug Design and Discovery (CD3) is a platform for technology transfer created at KU Leuven. CD3 focuses on the discovery and development of new small molecule drugs in collaboration with academic research groups or small companies (mainly spin-off companies from universities).
L-MRC
The Leuven Materials Research Centre (L-MRC) was created in 2005 as an interfaculty collaborative centre, providing a coordinating link between materials science and technology research groups at KU Leuven. L-MRC brings together a large critical mass in materials research, in a unique combination of competence and know-how, an impressive and state-of-the-art infrastructure and wide variety of studied material families, processes and applications.
L-MTC
The Leuven Medical Technology Centre (L-MTC) brings together a large critical mass in medical technology research and development, and a unique combination of competence and know-how. It was created in 2007 as an interfaculty collaborative centre within the Leuven University Hospitals and the KU Leuven Association.
LICT
The Leuven Centre on Information and Communication Technology (LICT) combines the complimentary expertise and experiences of electronics engineers, computer scientists and sociologists in the ICT field at KU Leuven, resulting in a multi-disciplinary research centre that aims to play a leading role in the worldwide ICT research scene.
NERF
Imec, VIB and KU Leuven have set up a joint basic research initiative to unravel the neuronal circuitry of the human brain: Neuroelectronics Research Flanders (NERF). Supported by the Flemish Government, NERF will look into fundamental neuroscientific questions through collaborative, interdisciplinary research combining nanoelectronics with neurobiology.
Pharmabs
Pharmabs is a KU Leuven research centre that focuses on generating tailor-made monoclonal antibodies. The activities of Pharmabs are based on targets that are identified by academic research groups and biotech companies and on initiation of non-clinical biopharmaceutical and diagnostic development. Pharmabs wants to bring projects to a stage at which it can be adopted by an industrial partner.
