European government funding
What do we do?
The European and International Projects department of KU Leuven Research & Development (LRD) specifically deals with European Framework Programme programmes (FP7, H2020), as well as with other European funded projects, such as Interreg projects. Tenders for public contracts of European institutions are managed by the Flemish and Federal Government Funding department of LRD.
FP7 and Horizon 2020
LRD assists coordinators and partners of the KU Leuven Association and the Leuven University Hospitals in managing FP7 and Horizon 2020 projects. Horizon 2020, the successor of the Seventh Framework Programme, is Europe’s new ambitious programme for the funding of research and innovation (including the previous CIP). Throughout the period 2014-2020, the European Commission will invest almost 80 billion euro in research. More information on Horizon 2020, the Work Programme and the calls can be found on the website of the Research Coordination Office (DOC) and the EU participant portal.
ERDF and Interreg programmes
ERDF and Interreg are initiatives of the European Regional Development Fund. The objective is to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union by promoting cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation and balanced development of the European Union territory.
KU Leuven has taken part in many projects of EFRO, Interreg III and Interreg IV. KU Leuven Research & Development (LRD) supports researchers in these projects with regard to financial, legal and administrative issues. The new Interreg V programme runs from 2014 until 2020. LRD also supports these projects. If you have any financial, legal or administrative questions, we advise you to contact us.
